The shoreline in Martinez, California.
This marshy area is about 2 blocks from downtown Martinez, just cross the railroad tracks and you're there, right on beautiful San Pablo Bay... There is also a marina with a few piers and you could kill an afternoon walking around Martinez downtown and the coast area right there. You could, if you were really bored. Firedancing4life has pictures of the new bridge going up in the area. Yelp has a review of the John Muir site also in the area.

Monterey bay cruise ship.
More information on Monterey bay, California here. Also, notes and pictures from Nicole Hanusek and Tow.com. As I said before, I'm not a big aquarium fan, especially when its swarming with kids.

Eureka California wharf.
Is it just me or do all wharfs pretty much look the same? Eureka CA is a small coastal town four or so hours drive north of San Francisco. (The drive is very nice) There are a few tourist attractions, but it is mostly a quiet place. I suggest eating at the wharf, driving by the Carson house, then getting out of town and into the great outdoors of the area. Josh Hornik has some details.

Richmond, CA marina.
This was taken at the Richmond, CA marina. Richmond is the eighth most dangerous city in the US in 2007, but it does have a "nice" part of town! Unless you're careful you have to drive through a not so nice section to get there however. Its not worth visiting on a trip though.

The view from Marin County
We went on this Carson falls hike in Marin County and this is the view. You can make out the Richmond bridge, UC Berkeley clock tower and downtown Oakland across the bay. Click on the picture to make it bigger.
