SF Bay

A mudflat on the east bay (Berkeley, Oakland) side of the San Francisco Bay. It can be a nice place for a bike ride, even in November.

Berkeley Tree Sitters

Three or so tree sitters moved into these oak trees outside of UC Berkeley stadium in protest of a new practice field being built where the oak trees are now. They are supposed to stay in the trees full time, but when I was there, one of them was running around on the ground trying to sell tourists some books. Here is a close up of their buckets of urine:
The whole thing is very California. As far as I know, they are still there if you want to head out and see them (I took these pictures on Dec 26, 2006). More on the tree sitters here and here.

Lets go fly a kite in Berkeley.

The plane kite:
You can find many kite fliers every windy weekend in Cesar Chavez Park (a former landfill) near the Berkeley Marina. A kite vendor parks a truck at the park so you can test them out before you buy. More from banane blog and Brooke & Lian.

The view from Marin County

We went on this Carson falls hike in Marin County and this is the view. You can make out the Richmond bridge, UC Berkeley clock tower and downtown Oakland across the bay. Click on the picture to make it bigger.

UC Berkeley.

The University of California Berkeley campus is not so much worth a visit to tour unless you're really hurting for something to do or visiting your kid. Notice how every picture you see of the campus has the clock tower in it? Thats because there really isn't anything else to see. More links.
